Feature

Optical Phase-Sensitive Sampling to Capture Optical Waveforms

When a sampling pulse propagates down a nonlinear optical fiber together with a data signal, mixing occurs, producing an idler wave with power proportional to the original data signal. This all-optical sampling process eliminates the bandwidth limitations of electro-optical systems that must convert from one domain to the other and allows capture of 40- to 100-Gbaud data with complex polarization-multiplexed formats such as QPSK, 8PSK, and 16-QAM.

LTE Signal Fading Simulator

A new fading simulator software option has been integrated into the 7100 Series LTE Digital Radio Test Set. The 7100 simulator supports all LTE bandwidths to 20 MHz with a frequency range up to 6 GHz and all 3GPP fading profiles. The fully repeatable scenarios include the emulation of dynamic environments and realistic and accurate MIMO testing. The benchtop system, featuring an embedded PC and touch-screen display, provides RF parametric and protocol testing for LTE terminal devices and simulates a network from the physical layer to the core network IP infrastructure. Hand-Held RF Power Meter

The V3500A is a compact RF power meter that features a frequency range of 10 MHz to 6 GHz, a measurement range of -63 dBm to +20 dBm, and absolute accuracy up to ±0.21-dB. A built-in power sensor eliminates the need to carry a separate power sensor. The meter can draw operating power from batteries, an AC-DC converter module, or a computer via a USB interface. An optional belt loop holster or carrying case with shoulder strap is available. Agilent Technologies

BER and Eye-Pattern Analysis Instrument

The MP2100A BERTWave Series is a single-instrument solution that conducts 10 Gb/s BER measurements and eye pattern analysis simultaneously. A tracking function eliminates setting changes for Tx and Rx signals, and a Bessel filter supports high-accuracy extinction ratio measurements. Calibration is conducted with a reference light source that typically holds error to <±0.05 dB. A correction function automatically adjusts the measured extinction ratio to assure correlation with other instruments. The BERTWave series also includes the MP2101A, a BER tester that supports 8.5 Gb/s to 11.32 Gb/s; and the MP2102A, an eye/pulse pattern tester for high-speed mask tests. Anritsu

Non-Signaling in Next-Generation Test

Next-generation cellular handset testing will concentrate on having direct control of the cell phone through so-called non-signaling test techniques designed into the actual chipset. Rather than requiring a test set to faithfully emulate over-the-air signals and protocols that the phone will receive and interpret, non-signaling test puts the phone in a known state and measures predefined transmission patterns.

Field-to-Lab Solution

A new Field-to-Lab (FTL) solution allows changing RF conditions collected by drive test tools to be replayed in the laboratory through the company’s ACE™ MX Universal MIMO Channel Emulator. Laboratory playback of real-world field data offers R&D teams the ability to test products against actual channel conditions recorded in the field. Operators also can use the FTL solution to test devices prior to deployment as well as to troubleshoot system performance.

The ACE MX wireless channel emulator is architected to meet the needs of MIMO and orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM)-based systems. The universal-frequency, bidirectional instrument supports from SISO up to 8x4 MIMO systems and features built-in real-time fading including industry-standard or custom designed models that allow users to recreate a variety of typical MIMO scenarios for accurate performance and interoperability testing. Fibre Channel Interface

Ixia has added native fibre channel capabilities to its Data Center. The converged testing solution features both fibre channel over Ethernet (FCoE) and fibre channel interfaces, traffic performance tests, and real I/O performance testing. Ethernet interfaces can operate at speeds from 1 and 10 Gb/s, and the fibre channel interface module’s four- or eight-port variants, up to 96 ports per chassis, can be programmed to 2, 4, or 8 Gb/s.

The solution includes three test applications that use the same hardware platform: IxANVL validates device conformance to FCoE protocols, including FIP and DCBX. IxNetwork offers performance testing over Ethernet, FCoE, and fibre channel connections by emulating large-scale network environments, allowing end-to-end testing of converged FCoE switches, converged network adapters, and other mixed protocol devices. IxSAN is a SAN test solution with real-world, large-scale emulation of fibre channel protocol targets and initiators over Ethernet. Ixia

RF Switch

The Model SEM02012 fail-safe SP2T RF switch, designed to handle DC to 18 GHz, features very low insertion loss and rugged construction. It runs from 12 VDC at 275 mA, has maximum insertion loss of 0.5 dB, isolation of at least 60 dB, and VSWR of less than 1.5:1. The SEM020-12 uses SMA female connectors, includes an integral indicator circuit, and measures 1.34 in. x 1.5 in. x 0.5 in. Narda Microwave-East, division of L-3 Communications

Audio Analyzers

The UPP200/400/800 Audio Analyzers are available in two-, four- or eight-channel versions. Multiple analyzers can be cascaded to test as many as 48 analog measurement channels.

The analyzers include a built-in computer so all operations run in the base unit, and the controller of the test system does not need to be equipped with software to control the analyzer. The compact audio analyzer comes without a graphical user interface. However, users can connect a monitor, keyboard, and mouse to create a stand-alone instrument. Rohde & Schwarz
